Red Lobster still has dozens of restaurants open in Florida

play

Desperate for a Cheddar Bay Biscuit fix? Although nearly 100 Red Lobster restaurants in 28 states abruptly closed last month — including at least 17 in Florida — and 135 may still be at risk, there are still many locations for the popular seafood chain.

Red Lobster, which started in Lakeland, Florida and grew into the world’s largest seafood restaurant chain, said it has more than $1 billion in debt and less than $30 million in cash on hand, CNN reported. It plans to sell the company to its lenders so it can proceed with financing.

While some blamed the chain’s popular “endless shrimp promotion” for bringing the company down, experts pointed to inflationary prices, above-market rental obligations and operational decisions.

Endless shrimp didn’t cause Red Lobster to go bankrupt

A series of financial problems, including $294 million in debt, have pushed seafood giant Red Lobster into bankruptcy.

But the closed locations represent only about 15% of the 641 restaurants open at the start of the year, and USA TODAY rounded up all Red Lobster locations and checked which ones were still open.

Here’s where to go in Florida.
