North Augusta woman accused of killing her three-year-old child in 2020

June 25 – A North Augusta woman has been charged with killing her child in 2020.

The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division charged Codi Raye Scott (Carter) on June 21 with two counts of unlawful conduct with a child.

Scott (Carter) allegedly strangled her three-year-old child on October 13, 2020, according to an arrest warrant.

Another arrest warrant stated that Scott (Carter) allegedly caused multiple injuries to the child between July 28, 2020 and October 12, 2020, including bruising to the child’s chest, back, eye, ear and jaw.

SLED’s Special Victims Unit was notified of the child’s death on October 13, 2020, and the Edgefield County Sheriff’s Office requested SLED on January 17, 2023 to lead the investigation.

Unlawful conduct towards a child is a criminal offense punishable by up to ten years in prison.

The 11th Circuit Solicitor’s Office will prosecute the case.
