NBA Draft Notes: Kings have drafted Ron Holland, linked to DaRon Holmes

Yahoo’s Jake Fischer posted an article with a lot of draft-related news and rumors. Definitely worth watching the whole thing if you’re an avid tour enthusiast. But two comments especially stood out to Kings fans:

Ron Holland worked for the Kings

The Kings, much to my chagrin, have been very secretive with their workouts in the Monte McNair era, but Fischer reports that the Kings are one of the teams that Ron Holland has met for a workout.

With no definitive top prospect, NBA teams have prepared for all kinds of volatility and movement up and down the draft board, with players echoing that sentiment. “I have no idea where I’m going,” Colorado forward Cody Williams said. “There will be a lot of transactions.” Williams did say he trained for every team in the top 10. Ron Holland, a G League Ignite product, agreed. “There’s so much uncertainty,” said Holland, who worked in Atlanta, Charlotte, Portland, San Antonio, Chicago, Miami, Sacramento and Oklahoma City.

Holland is one of my favorite prospects for the Kings. I wrote a profile of him here. A month ago, it seemed unlikely that Holland would be on the board at all when the Kings picked at 13, but more and more shams have Holland available with the 13th pick. ESPN’s Jonathan Givony kept Holland ahead of the Kings in his latest mock draft.

The Kings are “connected” with DaRon Holmes

DaRon Holmes is also a favorite here, you can read more about him from Bryant here. Holmes would be a particular favorite of the Denver Nuggets, who currently have the 28th pick. He halted his workouts early in the pre-draft process, leading to speculation about a pledge. Fischer adds some interesting reporting:

While Holmes has indeed paused his workout routine — leading teams to suspect promise at some point in the late first round — and Holmes could certainly be an option for the Nuggets at that spot, there’s no guarantee Denver would select him, sources said. Holmes has drawn interest from enough teams to earn a green-room invite. He has also been linked to Sacramento by league personnel.

The 13th pick is still available for trade

The latest Kings tidbit isn’t a surprise, but confirmation that the Kings are still open to moving the 13th pick. However, Fischer says the Kings don’t have any credible ties to any major deals at this point.
