Pirates Of The Caribbean actor dies after being attacked by a shark

A lifeguard who appeared in the fourth Pirates Of The Caribbean film has died after being attacked by a shark off Oahu in Hawaii.

Tamayo Perry, 49, who also starred in Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle and Blue Crush, was attacked Sunday afternoon near Goat Island, Honolulu emergency officials said.

The incident was reported by a caller who said they saw a man suffering from what appeared to be shark bites.

Emergency services arrived on the scene at Malaekahana beach just before 1pm local time.

Rescuers brought Mr. Perry — an Ocean Safety lifeguard and surfing instructor — to shore by jet ski and paramedics assisted in the declaration of death, said Shayne Enright of the Honolulu Emergency Services Department.

Mr. Perry, who worked as a lifeguard on the North Shore, began his career with the Ocean Safety Department in July 2016, Mr. Enright said.

He appeared as a pirate in Pirates Of The Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, Honolulu’s Star Advertiser reported in 2011.

Ocean Safety personnel posted shark warnings in the area after the attack.

Acting Honolulu Ocean Safety chief Kurt Lager said Perry was “a lifeguard loved by all.”

“He’s well known on the North Shore. He’s a professional surfer known worldwide,” Lager said.

“Tamayo’s personality was infectious and as much as people loved him, he loved everyone else more.”

“Tamayo was a legendary waterman and highly respected,” Honolulu Mayor Rick Blangiardi said, calling Perry’s death “a tragic loss.”
