Big V

The Melton Thoroughbreds won a thriller against the Sherbrooke Suns on Saturday night in the Big V Men’s Division 2 competition. The Thoroughbreds opened up a strong lead in the middle two quarters, but watched it fade as the Suns came home hard. The Thoroughbreds held on to win 71-70. Milan Savic top scored with 33 points. The Thoroughbreds are second on the ladder.

Ballarat NL

Melton came away with a solid win against Bacchus Marsh in the Ballarat Netball League on Saturday. Eager to stay in touch with the top six, the Bloods managed to come away with a 69-22 victory. The win sees the Bloods rise to eighth place, while Bacchus Marsh remains bottom. Melton South suffered a rare defeat, losing 53-51 to Lake Wendouree. The Panthers slide into fourth place. Darley had said goodbye.

Ballarat FL

The Ballarat Football League has named an initial squad of 32 players for the interleague match with the Hampden Football League. All players in the squad are aged 23 and under. Four Bacchus Marsh and Melton South players have been named. Jack Parente, Rye Penny, Josh Huxtable and Isaac Nixon have been selected from the Cobras, while Cody Chapman, Mitch Fino, Broden Collins and Jarrod Bibby are the Panthers selected. Darley’s Brady Wright, Zane Le Huray and Will Johnson, along with Melton’s Conrad Farrugia, Adrian Monitto and Kyle Borg are also in the squad.

Melton Phoenix moved into third place on the FV State League 4 West Ladder with a win against Moonee Ponds United on Friday evening. The Phoenix played a catch-up game and despite a number of players being out, managed to rally and win 1-0. The Phoenix are now four points behind second place.
