Owensboro golfer Ke’Asha Phillips dreams of the LGPA Tour

Ke’Asha Phillips has been playing competitive golf since she was in the 4th grade. Since that time, her passion for the sport of golf has turned her into a career. Today she is an assistant golf coach at the University of Brescia and also works at the Ben Hawes Golf Course here in the city. Although she enjoys teaching and coaching golf, her inner drive calls her to play professionally. Her ultimate dream? A spot on the LPGA Tour.

Ke’Asha graduated from Owensboro High School in 2017. She won the 2nd Region title when she was a junior and senior. Her senior year she also played her way to a 3rd place finish in the KHSAA State Golf Tournament. She has also become accustomed to winning titles. She won the 2015 KY Junior Amateur Championship, the 2020 Kentucky Women’s Stroke Play Championship, and the 2022 Kentucky Women’s Open Championship. In other words, Ke’Asha can play!

After graduating from OHS, Ke’Asha played collegiate golf for Xavier, where she had a Top 6 finish and two Top 10 finishes. Today she shares her love of the game with her team at Brescia University and the young people she teaches at Ben Hawes.

Now she’s ready to make a run for the big leagues! Next month, Ke’Asha’s family will host a luncheon fundraiser to raise the money needed to help her pursue that goal.

Ke’Asha says the money raised will go toward paying tournament entry fees, travel expenses and the equipment she needs to compete.

Ke’Asha has a master’s degree in social work and has been involved with several community nonprofits such as The Cliff Hagan Boys and Girls Club, Matthew 25 AIDS Services, the American Cancer Society, and First Tee of Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky.

She says, “As an African American woman, I have overcome many obstacles, and I continue to strive to be a successful and respectable female athlete.” Sure enough, all her friends and family are excited to cheer her on and see how she does.
