4-year-old girl killed in crash on Interstate 77

FRANKLIN TWP. – A 4-year-old girl died and two other people were injured Wednesday after a single-vehicle crash on Interstate 77 in northern Tuscarawas County.

The girl was a passenger in a 2007 Honda Civic that was traveling north on the highway at 5:47 p.m. when it veered off the left side of the road, struck a raised grass median and began to overturn, the Ohio State Highway Patrol said. The car was driven by Josue De Leon Rivera, 38, of Dover, who suffered minor injuries and was taken to Cleveland Clinic Mercy Hospital in Canton.

The girl, who was not named in a news release, was taken to Cleveland Clinic Union Hospital in Dover for serious injuries and later died, the patrol said.

A 7-year-old boy, who also was not named, was taken to Cleveland Clinic Mercy Hospital for minor injuries, the patrol said.

The crash remains under investigation, the patrol said.

The Strasbourg Fire Department, Smith Ambulance, Tuscarawas County Sheriff’s Office, Bolivar Fire Department and Greg’s Towing assisted at the scene.
