1 dead, several injured in crash involving 2 semi-trucks on I-96: police

CLINTON COUNTY, MI – One person was killed and several others were injured in a crash Wednesday on Interstate 96 in Clinton County, according to Michigan State Police.

Michigan State Police Lt. Rene Gonzalez said a driver “wasn’t paying attention” when traffic slowed near a construction zone along westbound Interstate 96 near Grange Road, west of Lansing, and struck the back of another car collided.

The crash set off a chain reaction of events that ultimately involved two semi-trucks, according to Gonzalez.

Gonzalez confirmed that one person was killed in the crash and several others were injured and taken to a nearby hospital, although their status was not known.

Gonzalez did not identify the at-fault driver or say which vehicle the victim was in.

“What we’re asking is to be careful out there. If you’re in those construction zones, pay attention. Slow down and look far down the road to pay attention to what’s going on,” Gonzalez said.

Police are still investigating the accident.
