Will Alabama land Greedy Vance?

It was long believed that Alabama Football would turn to the transfer portal this spring cycle to add at least one defensive back. The Tide has had a disproportionate amount of postseason turnover in the secondary, and will either need to replenish depth or take the field this fall with many unproven players.

Former Florida State cornerback Greedy Vance Jr. appeared on the portal this week and could be an option for the Crimson Tide after receiving a scholarship offer from Coach Kalen DeBoer.

Vance started five games for the Seminoles in 2023 and recorded 34 tackles, four interceptions and five pass breakups in two seasons in Tallahassee. Before that, he recorded 37 tackles and seven PBUs in two seasons at Louisville.

Skilled secondary players are a hot commodity in the portal, so there will be no shortage of teams trying to acquire Greedy Vance. Alabama could certainly use his services at cornerback, whether as a starter or for depth purposes. Even just for the sake of competition, Bama should probably add a corner with some college experience.

Even after adding USC transfer Domani Jackson, the rest of the room is made up entirely of freshmen. Redshirt freshman Jahlil Hurley has been scheduled for a year but has yet to see the field. True freshmen like Jaylen Mbakwe, Zabien Brown, Zay Mincey and Dre Kirkpatrick Jr. are super talented, but as green as they can be.

Vance would be a very good pick for this Crimson Tide secondary, and could get the ball rolling for a few more portal commitments. Interestingly, some Florida State insiders believe it is the presence of former Alabama corner Earl Little Jr. was who pushed Vance out the door.

If so, it would be nice payback for Vance to join college football’s best brand and thrive where Little walked away.
