Who is Kaeden Kent? Son of 5-time All-Star Jeff has Aggies on the brink of first championship

Texas A&M baseball is one win away from its first national championship, defeating Tennessee in Game 1 of the College World Series finals, with a possible closeout Game 2 set for Sunday.

Texas A&M wins slugfest vs. Tennessee, one win away from its first College World Series title

The Aggies are undefeated thus far in Omaha, especially impressive considering the injuries A&M has suffered, including to their star outfielder Braden Montgomery. They’ve seen a handful of others step up in the absence of projected top-10 MLB draft pick Montgomery, including second baseman Kaeden Kent.

Kent is the son of former Major League second baseman and National League MVP Jeff Kent, who played at a borderline-Hall of Fame level for 17 seasons in the majors.

He went 3-for-5 on Saturday in Game 1 vs. the Volunteers, including his second CWS home run. Kent scored four runs in the Aggies’ 9-5 victory, putting them on the brink of a title.

It’s not the only huge home run Kent has hit during the Aggies’ deep run.

In the Bryan-College Station Super Regional vs. Oregon Kent capped off a wild nine-run seventh inning for the Aggies with a grand slam. The Aggies entered the inning trailing 8-4, stormed back to take a 9-8 lead, then Kent’s slam put the dagger in the Ducks and helped send A&M to Omaha.

Kent is 11-for-25 (.440) with two home runs and 14 RBI in his past six games, and it couldn’t have come at a better time for the Aggies.

Kent, who is not eligible for the draft until 2025, is currently projected as the No. 55 pick in next year’s draft class, according to Future Stars Series.

He undoubtedly increases his stock with this clutch performance in Omaha, and it could help the Aggies take home the championship as well.
