BOURNE, MASS. (WHDH) – The Bourne Bridge over the Cape Cod Canal was closed Monday morning after a car caught fire near the Bourne Rotary, officials said.

MassDOT said in a post on X around 10 a.m. that southbound lanes were closed in the area and warned motorists to expect delays.

Bourne police said in an update on Facebook at 10:10 a.m. that the bridge was closed in both directions.

Video footage showed a badly burned car stopped on the side of the road. The fire brigade remained on scene and saw that water was still being poured on the car.

No further information was immediately available about the cause of the fire or the condition of anyone in the car when the fire broke out.
