Gov. Reynolds issues a disaster proclamation for western Iowa counties amid predicted flooding

DES MOINES, Iowa (WOWT) – Gov. Kim Reynolds has issued a disaster proclamation for five western Iowa counties in response to threatened flooding along the Missouri River.

The proclamation covers Fremont, Harrison, Mills, Monona and Pottawattamie counties. It allows state resources to be allocated to response and recovery efforts. Specifically, the proclamation ends overtime wage restrictions for state workers, allows state departments to obtain resources as needed, and allows vehicles transporting goods such as corn, soybeans, fertilizer and waste to be overweight without permits.

The governor and department officials met with the media on Sunday to provide an update on operations and response. (WATCH)

Governor Reynolds’ office says a copy of the proclamation will be released.
