The 1953 flood left an impression on Spencer that remains legendary today. That was until this weekend.

After the Little Sioux reached the high-water mark of 20 feet 71 years ago, the 2024 flood will go down in history as the new high water mark at 75 feet. Before noon, Sunday waters began to recede, dropping until 8:18 p.m.

A record that no one in Spencer or Clay County wanted to break.
