A shelter alert was issued for 18th and Curtis streets after reports of shots fired

Denver police closed the 1700 block of Curtis Street in downtown Denver and urged residents to stay indoors as officers investigate reports of shots fired in the area.

The shelter-in-place order was issued around 10 a.m. Monday morning.

As of noon, the order is still in place.

Denver police said on X, formerly Twitter, that reports of an active shooter are inaccurate and that officers are working to contact a suspect. No injuries were reported as of Monday afternoon.

Affected homes and businesses include Quincy Apartments, Kimpton Hotel and Residence Inn Denver City Center.

Commuters are encouraged to take alternate routes in the area.
