Brush fire near Tallahassee International Airport Monday

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – The U.S. Forest Service was battling a 156-acre wildfire near Tallahassee International Airport Monday afternoon.

A Forest Service public information officer confirmed to WCTV that the fire, dubbed the “Turkey Pond Fire,” was burning in the area of ​​Springhill Road and Capital Circle SW.

As of 2 p.m., crews reported 45% of the fire under control and hoped to have the entire fire under control by 4 p.m., before a wind change.

The Forest Service says fuel on the ground is minimal because the area went through a prescribed burn about three years ago.
