New principle named after Morris Avenue Intermediate School in Opelika

OPELIKA, Ala. (WRBL) — A new principle for a high school in Opelika has been appointed.

Laura Sellers will take over as principal of Morris Avenue Intermediate School. The announcement was made Monday by Opelika City Schools Superintendent Farrell Seymore.


According to Opelika City Schools, Sellers has worked with their school system for the past nine years. Sellers started at Morris Avenue Intermediate School, where she taught fifth grade in 2015. Previously, Sellers taught at Johnnie Carr Middle School in Montgomery.

Sellers earned a bachelor’s degree in human development and family studies from Auburn University in 2011. A few years later, she earned a master’s degree in elementary education from Auburn University in Montgomery.

Sellers obtained his education specialist diploma in 2020. That same year, she also earned certification in Instructional Leadership from the University of West Alabama.

“I am thrilled and deeply honored to serve as principal of Morris Avenue Intermediate School. The Morris Avenue faculty, staff and students are amazing and I look forward to continuing to work with them as I serve in this leadership position,” said Sellers. “My family and I love Opelika and I am excited to play a role in the growth and success of Opelika City Schools.”
