Driver arrested after fatal highway accident

The 61-year-old was charged with causing death by dangerous driving following the crash on the Stuart Highway on Monday.

Emergency services were called to the scene in Kootaberra at around 2.50pm after reports a car had crashed into a tree.

A 63-year-old man, a rear passenger, died, while the driver and two other passengers were taken to hospital with minor injuries.

Major Crash Investigators responded to the scene and the driver was later arrested. She was refused bail and will appear in the Port Augusta Magistrates Court today.

The Stuart Highway reopened early Tuesday morning.
