Brown Road closed due to downed wires, but the airport remains open

Brown Road in Lansing is one of several roads in the region that we have learned is closed or partially blocked due to fallen tree limbs or wires, and Ithaca Tompkins International Airport officials confirmed to 14850 Today that the airport remains open and accessible.

A Tompkins SIREN alert shortly after noon Monday reported Brown Road “closed until further notice due to fallen wires/transformer.” An updated alert states that the airport is accessible and we have learned that the section of Brown Road from Warren Road to the airport entrance remains open.

Tompkins County Whole Health says their office at 55 Brown Road also remains open and accessible from the Warren Road side.

There are no commercial flights in or out of ITH until just before 3pm. East Hill Flying Club, Taughannock Aviation and the ATC tower have been evacuated, we have been told.

Update: Traffic lights at the intersection of Warren Road and Route 13 are out. Ithaca Airport deputies and CFR personnel are assisting with traffic control. Be careful in this area.

We have seen many reports of fallen trees or branches, as well as power lines, due to high winds. Power is out in some areas, including Freeville and the Enfield Falls Road area south of Ithaca. Drive carefully and remember to treat intersections with extinguished traffic lights as a stop.
