Davies’ matriarch, Augusta Olujoke Davies, 90, dies

The family of the late Chief HO Davies has announced the death of her loving matriarch, Mrs. Augusta Olujoke Davies (nee Oluwole), on May 11, 2024, at the age of 90.

The nonagenarian was the widow of Chief Hezekiah Oladipo Davies QC, a prominent Nigerian founding father and nationalist, and mother of Mrs. Olufunmilayo Goka, the former Deputy Managing Director of the Nigerian Agip Oil Company (NAOC), and other illustrious and accomplished children.

It is a celebration of life since her passing, as she is fondly remembered by many as an example of kindness and dedication, ‘a strong advocate for the underprivileged and humanity at large’ and ‘the proverbial mother hen who went the extra mile’ to ensure the progress, well-being and protection of not only her biological children, but everyone around her.”

For many others, her legacy lies not just in the love she gave or the challenges she overcame, but in the community she nurtured around her.

Her virtuous influence and zealous role as a worthy, loving partner in her late husband’s public service career and nationalist activities were exemplary, as was her hospitable and generous spirit toward all.

Born into the prominent Ben Oluwole family of Yaba Area Community, she was married to First Republic politician and nationalist, Chief HO Davies, and blessed with many children.

She is widely praised for her selfless life of service, love and deep faith, reflected in her memorable conviction and saying, “It’s okay!”

The celebration of life will culminate with Service of Songs and Wake-keep scheduled on Thursday, June 27, 2024, while the funeral service will take place on Friday, June 28, 2024 at the Wesley Cathedral, Olowogbowo, Lagos.

She was much loved and will always be remembered by her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
