National HIV Testing Day event in Baton Rouge with free testing services

BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) – June 27 is celebrated as National HIV Testing Day.

In an effort to raise awareness, the Baton Rouge AIDS Society (BRASS) has announced it will offer free HIV testing.

The groups say the community is invited to take advantage of services on Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. at the BRASS office at 646 North Foster Drive.

In light of recent data from the Louisiana Department of Health, Baton Rouge ranks fifth in the rate of HIV diagnoses, with 22 new diagnoses per 100,000 people in the third quarter of 2023. Additionally, as of 2021, Baton Rouge had a significant residents with HIV, with a prevalence of 1,104 per 100,000 people.

Early detection and treatment are crucial steps in controlling and reducing HIV transmission.
