Storm knocks out power to nearly 50,000 customers in Connecticut

A line of severe weather moved through Connecticut overnight, downing trees and power lines and leaving many residents without power.

Eversource reports that more than 49,000 customers are without power across the state, with the majority of outages concentrated in the Hartford region.

In other areas the outages were more limited. Torrington reported 653 outages, while Greenwich had 64 and Westport only six.

United Illuminating reported 277 customers without power this morning, including 230 outages in New Haven and 14 in Trumbull. There were no reported outages in Fairfield or Bridgeport.
