A planning statement says the site was formerly a Second World War quarry and has been used for dog walking by its owner, their family and friends, and for recreation for about 20 years.

It said: “With the continued rapid growth of the village we have decided to open up our private area to local people and the wider community who wish to walk their dogs in a well maintained, safe, gated environment, helping them avoid having to walk on overgrown footpaths or encounter other dogs.

“The tenant would have exclusive use of the park during his visit.

“The park would meet the existing need for safe off-leash dog walking in the area.

“We are confident it will become a valued amenity for many dog owners and their dogs. For those driving to our dog park, there is off-road parking.”

The site has tracks for maintenance purposes and has always been fenced due to its nature.

A wooden field shelter would be built with a corrugated iron roof.
