Rob Riccitelli, a broker with Landing Real Estate in South Portland, Maine, notes that low inventory and higher interest rates pose a real challenge for homebuyers, but there is hope: “I think some buyers are starting to realize that if they are upfront approved for an amount that allows them to buy a home they like and can afford, they can refinance their mortgage if interest rates drop.”

What about the national luxury real estate market?

Based in Maine, Riccitelli is familiar with the luxury market. Portland, Maine was noted as the top luxury market in the United States in 2023. He called the luxury real estate market “a different game” and noted that when prices go north of the million dollar mark, interest rates lower appear to be. of one factor: “Buyers who buy at that price often pay cash.”
