Angels’ Rendon leaves game with hamstring injury

Los Angeles Angels third baseman Anthony Rendon left Saturday’s game against the Cincinnati Reds after suffering a hamstring injury following an infield single in the first inning, the club announced.

Rendon has faced criticism for his play since signing a seven-year, $245 million contract with the Angels in 2020, recording just 22 home runs in five years with the team. Multiple serious injuries limited Rendon to 219 games during that time.

The 33-year-old also said during the offseason that baseball has “never been a top priority” for him.

Rendon is slashing .267/.325/.307 with no home runs and three RBIs through 19 games this season.
