New Hartford softball comes away victorious in pitching duel against Cicero-North Syracuse

Olivia Vitullo scored the sole run of the game for New Hartford on Saturday against C-NS. Also representing the New Hartford softball team at’s spring sports media day were Danielle Lucas, top left, and from bottom left, Taylor Scranton and Jenna Glenn.

New Hartford’s Ruby Gehringer and Cicero-North Syracuse’s Lillian Hotaling both had nearly flawless performances in the circle on Saturday.

New Hartford managed to squeak out a 1-0 win over C-NS despite a somewhat quiet day from the plate.

“You have those days where your bats win it and you have days where your defense wins it,” New Hartford coach Dan Stalteri said. “Today was definitely a defensive one.”

Olivia Vitullo scored the lone run of the game in the fifth inning off of a single by Alessandra D’Apice. It was the only hit of the night for the Spartans.

Gehringer wowed in her complete game shutout of the Northstars. The eighth-grader gave up just three hits and one walk while striking out six batters.

New Hartford’s defense also had a stellar performance. The Spartans only had one error throughout the contest.

Hotaling posted an exceptional outing for C-NS. The junior pitcher hero New Hartford to one hit and one run scored.

Mila Owens, Payton Bach and Paige Pangaro each recorded a hit for the Northstars.

“These games are just going to make us better,” Stalteri said.

New Hartford (3-1) faces off against Oneida on Monday. C-NS (1-3) will have the chance to bounce back with a matchup versus CBA on Monday.
