Iowa girls state soccer championships move to Ames in 2025 | News, sports, jobs

PHOTO COURTESY OF IOWA STATE ATHLETICS – The Cyclone Sports Complex will serve as the host for the championship games of all state girls soccer games beginning in 2025.

AMES – Iowa State’s Department of Intercollegiate Athletics and Discover Ames are teaming up to bring the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union state football championships to Ames for three years beginning in 2025, officials from all three organizations announced today.

“We are proud that the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union has selected the state of Iowa and the Ames community to host the girls state soccer championships, culminating in the championship games at the Cyclone Sports Complex, and we look forward to seeing everyone to provide an excellent experience. of the teams that make it to Ames for the championship rounds,” said Iowa Director of Athletics Jamie Pollard. “This is a great opportunity to showcase our campus, facilities and community to visitors from across the state, and we look forward to welcoming them to this championship event.”

The initial agreement between the parties covers the 2025-2027 Championships, with options to extend the relationship for future years. The 2025 championship is scheduled for June 2-7, with the quarterfinals and semifinals played on Lied and the Maple/Willow/Larch fields, while the championship games for all classes will take place at the Cyclone Sports Complex.

“We are thrilled to partner with Discover Ames and Iowa State University for our state girls soccer championship,” said Jean Berger, executive director of the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union. “Kevin (Bourke) and his Discover Ames team are experienced hosts and the facilities at Iowa State will provide our teams with a true championship experience. Ames and the Iowa Girl are a perfect fit and we are excited to see how we can continue to grow and improve our tournament together.”

The Cyclone Sports Complex, which opened in 2013, is home to the Iowa State football team. The state-of-the-art facility features a natural grass playing field, locker rooms and training area, as well as seating for 1,500 spectators. A new video board and sound system will be installed at the site ahead of the 2024 ISU fall season.

The Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union will celebrate its 26th football championship next month in Des Moines.
