The man was grooming dogs in Sim Park, not skinning them as people said online

The online claim that a man was skinning dogs in Sim Park turned out to be untrue, Wichita police spokesman Juan Rebolledo said Saturday.

Officers following Tuesday’s report identified the man and contacted the man on Saturday.

“That individual was extremely cooperative and explained to officers that he used that location to cut his dogs’ hair,” Rebolledo said in a news release. “Officers were unable to confirm at any time that no dogs… or animals were injured and physically checked the subject’s animals to confirm their health and hairstyle. At this time, we have not found any evidence to support the claim that this individual skinned or harmed dogs.”

A video and screenshots of the video of a person riding his bike through the park circulated online this week. In the video, the cyclist rides past a man kneeling on the ground next to what appears to be a dog, while what appears to be another dog lies in the back of the man’s open SUV.

The message reads: “A gentleman was recorded in Sims Park skinning dogs. Yes, you read that correctly. The police have been contacted and a report has been filed.”

The post states it happened Monday around 6 p.m. According to a police report, a report was filed with police on Tuesday at 6:54 p.m.
