Will Olivia Dunne ever compete in NCAA again? Everything you need to know about the star-studded future of gymnastics queen

Olivia Dunne and her compatriots in purple tights may not forget the night of April 20 in their lives. That evening brought the LSU Tigers their first national gymnastics championship, where names like Haleigh Bryant and Kiya Johnson put on a show to defeat the archrival Florida Gators and the top-seeded gymnastics team. However, after missing the semi-final at Dickies Arena a few days ago, Olivia Dunne also missed the final match. Such consistent absences begged the obvious question.

Will she ever don a purple leotard in Baton Rouge again in the near future? Or will the Arkansas Regional remain Olivia Dunne’s final gymnastics venue? Let’s find another scoop.

A lingering injury fear or less preparation before gymnastics season failed to challenge her when she stepped onto the mat April 4 at the Arkansas Regional. On that day, Livvy recorded 9.90, her personal best in the floor exercise. Such a possibility soon raised questions about her gymnastics pension. Moreover, in another meet this season, Olivia Dunne was able to achieve her near-perfect performances in all the events she competed in.

The occasion was LSU Tigers senior night, which also featured Olivia Dunne, a communications graduate in the program. Also that evening, the gymnast recorded an average of 9.8 with 9.75 in the beam routine against opponent North Carolina. So that performance also promoted the well-polished gymnastics skills of Livvy Dunne, who bowed to nothing. The LSU Tigers helped her a lot in reaching that class, as she credited HC Jay Clark’s supporting role in getting her back into gymnastics after dealing with a career-threatening ankle injury in the past. Will such a champion gymnast leave the sport so hastily?

Is this the end? Or the beginning of a new chapter?

As of now, 21-year-old Olivia Dunne will have one year of eligibility remaining after participating in the program during the pandemic period. And when it comes to being part of a team, Livvy doesn’t back down. Her social media fame has never gotten in the way of her primary responsibility as an LSU gymnast. Jay Clark had made that clear on a previous occasion.

We don’t call her Livvy. That’s a different person. She is Olivia or Liv. When she’s in that gym, she’s a gymnast, a teammate and a student at LSU. Everything that is on social media and the internet is not part of our daily interactions. That’s to her credit. She wants to be part of this team and wants us to be successful.” Clark had said. Professionally, too, Clark thought she was on the right track. After her senior night performance, Clark had said: “She does everything right.”

Understandably, Livvy longed for a place of her own, both on and off the mats. But whether she will stick to it depends solely on her. She will take the call whether she wants to stay in the camp for another year or not. On this question, Livvy seems to still be thinking about her choices, at least until a month ago.

In March, the queen of social media, sitting next to Sierra Ballard, confessed during a press conference: “Yes, I haven’t decided yet whether I’ll come back for a fifth year, that’s possible, but I haven’t really thought about it yet.” At the time, she had also said that taking home the National Championships would take priority over deciding her future. That dream comes true, something Olivia mentioned “Best Day Ever” in her IG story. It remains to be seen if Olivia will return to start a new journey on that path.
