Phoenix Academy trio ready for Aston Villa trial – Butler | Sport

PHOENIX ACADEMY boss Craig Butler says a trio of his players will today trial with English Premier League team Aston Villa.

According to Butler, Robino Gordon, Dante Peralto and Denzel McKenzie will train with Aston Villa’s under-21 squad.

Butler explained that this opportunity arose because Phoenix Academy has built a reputation for producing top quality players in Europe.

He pointed to the exploits of Leon Bailey, Dujuan Richards, Kemar Reid and Romario Williams as positive examples of the development taking place at the academy.

“We have built a reputation across Europe for delivering quality players. We therefore have contacts at Chelsea, West Ham, Genk, Aston Villa and more,” he said.

“We have continually released clips of our players and marketed our players appropriately, while at the same time preparing our players for the opportunities that arise.

“Now that we have performed so well, we have the opportunity through these clubs to give them a first chance with these players,” he added.

Butler is confident the trio of players will portray themselves well at the Birmingham club, describing the players as ‘true professionals’.

He said high-profile clubs like Aston Villa don’t just judge a player’s ability on the field, but also their character off the field.

In this regard, he does not have to worry about how his players will behave as they have the right mentality to become professional athletes.

“They have always been super professional, always willing to learn, extremely loyal and very committed footballers. This kind of loyalty and this kind of professionalism is what we are always looking for.

“When you look at these types of players, you can only congratulate the management team that worked with them, and not just myself.”

In Peralto’s case, Butler explained that the player has already spent the past two weeks in England on trial with English Football League Two club Salford City.

According to Butler, Peralto has been offered a contract by Salford City; however, the player will make his decision regarding his career after exploring all his options.

The trio is currently led by Phoenix Academy Head of Delegation Shelley McFarlane during their time in Europe.
